A quote from Alabama football coach Nick Saba
A Leap of Fate has been through many rounds of edits and revisions with my content editor and good friend Nicki Kraft. It's now in the hands of my new grammar and spelling editor, and again good friend, Bridget Schinker. As we prepare to send Kate and Troy off to the University of Alabama, I thought a quote from the football coach, recently tweeted by the gymnastics coach, would be appropriate.
"'You're either hungry or you're satisfied.' Are you satisfied with where we are, or are you hungry to move forward?"

A quote from one of my all time favorite gymnasts
"It's important to push yourself further than you think you can go each and every day -- as that is what separates the good from the great." -Kerri Strug, USA, 1996 Olympic gold medalist (team)
My heart broke for Kerri Strug during the 1996 Olympics. She had been my favorite US gymnast since competing with her at the 1991 Buckeye Classic. She was strong and determined; she never gave up. Kerri competed in two Olympics with the same goal... to win the individual all-around gold. While her life turned out just fine, there is a part of me that wonders if she ever got over the disappointment of not being able to finish out her Olympic dream.

A quote of my own
A passion that is pumped through your core
An intensity that ignites a fire into your sole
I am strong
I am determined
I am an athlete.

But you know what they couldn't do? They couldn't outwork me.
Too Good Not to Share
Written by Scott Laidig, author of Al Gray, Marine, Volume I, and an avid reader of our Leadership Minutes
With Woody's recent 100th birthday (Feb 14) it is appropriate that we consider his views on leadership. You may not know that Woody considered his greatest honor was being asked to speak at the Ohio State commencement in 1986.
Here, in part, is what he said:
". . . . many times you have found here at the University people who were smarter than you. I found them all the way through college and in football: bigger, faster, harder. They were smarter people than I.
But you know what they couldn't do? They couldn't outwork me. I ran into opposing coaches who had much better backgrounds than I did and knew a lot more about football than I did. But they couldn't work as long as I did. They couldn't stick in there as long as I could.
You can outwork anybody. Try it and you'll find out you can do it. The only way we got beaten was if we got a little fatheaded, if we didn't train well, if we had dissension on the squad, if we didn't recognize our purpose in life. . . . . ."
In Woody's mind, leadership boiled down to two things: hard work and people. His own hard work set the standard for his people, and that gave rise to his often heard quote, "You win with people!"
How hard are you working? Are you winning with your people?

Buddha means ‘enlightened’
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him” – Buddha
